James Wilkins

History

Known as James Alexander Wilkins, service number 6881, was a railway employee when he joined the Australian Imperial Forces (22nd Reinforcements, 6th Infantry Battalion) on the 4th July 1916 at the age of 24 years and 11 months. He embarked the HMAT "Ulysses" at Melbourne on the 20th October 1916, arrived in Plymouth 28th December 1916departed for France on the 28th March 1917, was wounded in action on the 20th September 1917, returned to Australia on board the Euripides on the 6th September and was Medically discharged on the 13th December 1919.

He was awarded the 1914/15 Star, the British War Medal and Victory Medal. [1]
