John A. Anderson


History
John Austin 'Sol' Anderson was born in Ballarat, the son of Daniel William and Elizabeth Jane Anderson, and husband of Ethel M. Anderson. At the time of his enlistment John and Ethel Anderson were living at 312 Ripon Street South, Ballarat.[1]
John Anderson (476) was a sergeant with the 2nd Australian Tunnelling Company. An engineer who enlisted at Ballarat on 24 July 1915, he left a wifew and two children. Anderson 34 years of age when he was killed in action in France on 01 July 1916. Among his personal effects at the time of his death was a lock of hair. Anderson is buried at Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, Armentieres.[2]
Legacy
Tree 1004 was planted in the Ballarat Avenue of Honour was planted for John Anderson, a former member of the Ballarat City Fire Brigade. The tree is a Lime, and was planted on 17 August 1917 by Miss Harvey.[3]
John Austin (Sol) Anderson's name is listed in the Ballarat School of Mines Honor Roll. Killed in action.[4], and the Ballarat Yacht Club Honor Roll.
John A. Anderson's name is included on a headstone in the Ballaarat Old Cemetery.

Family
John was married to Ethel M. Anderson.[5]

By 1922 Ethel had married F. Hendy, and was living in Albert Street, Busselton, West Australia.[6]
