John O. Baensch
John Oscar Baensch (1890-1949) served with the A.I.F. in World War One.
History
John Oscar Baensch was born in Geelong, Victoria in 1890, the son of Fred Baensch and Mary Agnes Leabheardt.[1]
Baensch was employed by the Electric Supply Company of Victoria as a Motorman on the Ballarat Tramways.[2] He started with the tramways on February 27, 1913. He had worked for the company as a causal tram conductor before this date.[2] He enlisted in the A.I.F. on July 8, 1914.
He was wounded three times during World War One.
He returned to the tramways on July 5, 1919, however the company discharged him on August 3, 1920, as his services were no longer required.[2]
In 1924 he is recorded as working as a linesman.
Baensch died in Ararat in 1949.
Legacy
World War One service recognised on the Ballarat Avenue of Honour.
