History
On New Year's Eve a family reunion took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Perrie, 322 Oxford-street, Leederville, the family circle being complete, with the exception of one daughter (Mrs. Fred Swale, of Melbourne). The occasion was the joint birthdays of Mr. and Mrs. John Perrie. Mr. Perrie is now in his 93rd year. He arrived in Australia in 1852, in the brig Ulurica, 400 tons, the voyage out taking 135 days. In 1862 he went to the South Island of New Zealand, in the gold rush, but returned to Australia after 18 months. At the age of 27 years he went into the butchering business in Humphray-street, Ballarat, and remained there until 1910, when he left to come to Perth. Mr. Perrie was a champion oarsman in his day, and still treasures his trophies won at Lake Learmonth and Burrumbeet. Mrs. Perrie was born at Gong Gong (late Fellmongers), Ballarat. They both enjoy good health. After the reception the party adjourned to the home of Stan Powell, son-in-law, where a happy evening was spent in dancing and games. Mr. Bill Simms, son-in-law, gave an exhibition of dancing in native costume, specially brought from New Guinea by Mrs. John Perrie Hammond, who came to Perth to be present at the celebration -she was accompanied by her sister. Miss Ena Perrie, Melbourne. Numerous presents and telegrams were received.[1]
