History

John was a Glenlyon boy, and a butcher. He enlisted early in 1915. Being a tall, strong young man, he was given the job of stretcher-bearer. He was killed at Pozieres, and is buried at Rue de Bois Cemetery near Armentieres, France. Two brothers also enlisted, and returned to Australia. He is remembered on the Burke Square Memorial and the Glenlyon State School Honour board in the Glenlyon Shire Hall.[1]
