Joseph Campbell
History
Joseph Robert Campbell, service number 492, was 20 years and 4 months old when he enlisted on the 18th April 1914, in the Australian Imperial Army, 8th Light Horse Regiment (Machine Gun Section). He had spent 2 years with the 73rd Light Horse Regiment, ranked Corporal. Before enlisting, he was a Blacksmith and Labourer. [1]
Embarked for Gallipoli on H.T. Kamerun 10th May 1915, wounded 5th October 1915 and sent to England to recover, left for Gilbraltar 15th October 1915, wounded in action, Romani 9th August 1916, returned to Australia via Cairo 2nd September 1916. He was discharged wounded 21st November 1916. He was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal. [2]
