"MacRobertson Staff of Employees 2000 in Number. The most skilled and artistic confectionery and chocolate unit in Australia. No connection with any other Confectionery House in Australia, Britain, Europe or America. Australia from Head to Heel".

MacRobertson's Steam Confectionery Works began in 1880 when Sir Macpherson Robertson started making sweets in the bathroom of his Fitzroy home. The business grew rapidly and by the 1900's had taken a large share of the confectionery market. It became the largest confectionery works in Australia and saw the introduction of the 'Old Gold' chocolate.
