Purposes

The Purposes of the Maldon Vintage Machinery Museum outline what the Association aims to acheive:

1)to acquire and/or house artefacts and documents related to Vintage Machinery and other Memorabilia and its history.

2)to conserve, catalogue, research and provide suitable storage for the machinery, artefacts and documents held by the Association.

3)to provide suitable access to the machinery, artefacts and documents held by the Association for the purpose of study, research, education and enjoyment by VMMM Inc members and the general public.

4)to encourage the exchange of knowledge, skills and expertise for the ongoing development of the Association and its collections.

5)to provide a place for the restoration of, and public exhibition of, vintage machinery and other collected artefacts and documents.

6)to work with community groups and elected representatives to further the purposes of the Association.

History

There are three key dates to the formation of the Maldon Vintage Machinery Museum.

The Maldon Flywheelers

The Malon Flywheelers was formed in mid 1972 with approximately 6 members. These members worked on obtaining vintage engines, one most notably being the 'Auntie Jack' engine. The Flywheelers group was an informal group which met occasionally to discuss vintage machinery. This group is noted as the birth of the association.

The Maldon Museum and Archives Association Inc.

In 2006 the first shed, known as 'the auntie jack shed' was officially opened. The museum had their first public day opening on easter saturday and sunday in 2006.

The Vintage Machinery Museum, having approximately 5 members at the time, were incorporated into the Maldon Museum and Archives Association Inc., until membership for the Vintage Machinery Museum surpassed 100 members in 2013, when the Maldon Vintage Machinery Museum became their own unique identity.

At a meeting in June 2013 a motion was moved that the Maldon Museum and Archives Association Inc. was to split off the Maldon Vintage Machinery Museum to become "The Maldon Vintage Machinery Museum Inc." with Roger Palmer being elected President of this new association. The association certainly had grown in the 10 years since the building of the first shed on the Vincent's road site, and now has several other sub-entities including the Thompson s foundry drawing group, and the Maldon Mens Shed Association.

Site

The Maldon Vintage Machinery Museum is located on Crown land managed by Parks Victoria on Vincents Road, Maldon. The site was a former mine and crushing plant.
