Matthew Ryan was a publican in the Ballarat district, <1863>. He died in 1866.
History
Matthew and Ann (Nancy) Ryan sailed to Australia on the Phoebe Dunbar. During the Eureka Stockade Matthew and Nancy Ryan had a tent inside the tent, and claimed for compensation after it was destroyed after the battle.
Ryan held the license for the Golden Well Hotel at Dowling Forest. In 1863 he became the first publican at the new Camp Hotel at Learmonth..[1] He purchased the freehold from the estate of a store keeper, Mr. Hedricks in late 1863. Members of his family operated the hotel until 1907.[2]
