History

The Midas Mine was formed into a company on 16 October 1855. A shaft was sunk, and a portable steam engine and horse puddler erected. [1]

Site

The Midas Mine was on the Dowling Forest Estate, a property at thebottom of Sulky Gully. It was owned by Alice Cornwall[2] - who was the leader in the establishment of this mine.[3]
