Background

The Moorabool Railway Viaduct is on the Ballarat Railway line. It is listed by Heritage Victoria.[1]

Moorabool viaduct.
Preparations are being made by the Railway department to begin the important work of renewing the Moorabool viaduct near Geelong. The new structure, which is estimated to cost nearly £70,000, will be 1300 feet long, with a maximum height of 110 feet. The original viaduct was built to carry a double line, but about fifteen years ago a single track was found sufficient to carry the traffic, and the necessary alterations were made. With the construc-tion of the new bridge the double track will be restored, to accommodate the in creasing traffic which will follow the open ing of the Gheringhap-Maroona line next month. The new structure will be a plate girder bridge, supported by the old masonry piers and additional trestles Ten. ders have been called for the steel girders to be used in connection with the work.[2]
