- A special committee meeting of the National Reform League was held at the office, Vale's corner, last evening, for the purpose of considering the action lately taken by a number of clergymen and gentlemen in opposition to the present secular Education Act. Mr R. T. Vale, vice-president, occupied the chair. There was a large attendance of members, and considerable discussion took place. It was resolved to offer determined opposition to any infringement of the secular principles of the present act ; and Mr James Hall was unanimously elected to contest the seat vacated by Mr Picton. The meeting then resolved itself into a meeting of the whole, to secure the return of the four retiring members, with Mr James Hall. And, after arrangements had been made for the coming con test, the meeting adjourned.[1]
- The executive of the National Citizens' Reform League, in response to a general wish, have arranged a series of public meetings throughout the Western district. Prominent speakers of the league, assisted by local speakers, will deliver addresses on the political situation as it affects the economical ad ministration in the Federal and state Legis latures. Mr. A. C. Palmer (president), Mr. James Hall (vice-president), Messrs. G. D. Meudell, W. A. Hart, W. Warren Kerr (members of the council of the league), and Mr. G. W. S. Dean, general secretary, will take part at various times and places.[2]
