The New Year's Gift Hotel was described as being at Sago Hill in 1862,[1] and Bunker's Hill in 1863.[2]

Community Involvement
In January 1862, the hotel was the venue for an inquest into the death of James Alfred Trompf. Trompf was only 20 months old when he drank hot tea from the spout of a teapot, scalded his mouth, and died from asphyxia.[2]
