History

Norman Wood was born in South Melbourne in 1869, settling in Ballarat in 1897. Wood was a clarionette and oboe player. He was a member of the Curlew Club Orchestra Fitzroy; Bohemian Lyric and Independent Church Orchestra, Melbourne, and a member of the Ballarat Lyric Orchestra from 1897.[1]

Norman Wood started teaching Photography at the Ballarat School of Mines from 1918.[2]

Mr C.E. Campbell, after having instructed the Photography Classes for several years, has been succeeded by Mr Norman Wood.[3]

The 1920 Ballarat School of Mines Students' Magazine lists J. Woods as the instructor in Photography and Retouching, etc.[4]

Legacy

Norman Wood was one of the founders of the Wendouree Fire Brigade (established 1913).[5]
