The North Star was a hotel in Ballarat East, Victoria, 1869-1891.

Background

It was one of the 40 hotels closed in 1891 in Ballarat East as part of the changes to licensing laws.[1]

History

The owner, Mrs. North, and the publican, James Wills, were paid £865 compensation for the closure of the business.[1][2]

Site

The North Star Hotel was in Victoria Street[3], on the north east corner with Otway Street.[4] This site in 2016 is a residential property.

  • John North owned, and possibly started the North Star Hotel. He held the licence in <1873>
  • In June 1869 the publican was T. Boulton.[4]
