Park Mine
The Park Company was formed in September 1867, for the purpose of working a portion of the public park adjoining in the Hand in Hand and the Band Of Hope Co.[1]
Nearly the whole ground worked by this company may be described as a reef wash.[2]
History
Located in what is now Victoria Park, this was a rich mine that puddled 750 tons of washdirt each day. The mine closed down in 1874, at which time 94,699 ounces of gold had been removed from the ground. The Mullock Heap in Victoria Park, known as Mount Holled Smith, is the mullock heap associated with the Park Mine.[3]
This company donated two guineas towards a reverberatory furnace for treating Pyrites at the Ballarat School of Mines.[4]
