Percy E. N. Murphy
History
Percival Edward Neville Murphy was born in Prahran, Melbourne. He married Amelia Blanche (unknown surname).[1]
During World War One Percy Murphy (61053)[2] was a member of the Engineers.[3] At the time of his enlistment at Ballarat he was a carpenter aged 26 and 6 months. His next of kin was listed as Emelia Blanche Murphy of 44 Armstrong Street Ballarat South. http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/scripts/Imagine.asp?B=7990391
In February 1918 Percy Murphy was in the No. 5 Australian General Hospital suffering from Tuberculosis. [4]
Legacy
Percy Murphy's World War One service is recognised with the planting of tree 2880, a Scarlet Oak, in the Ballarat Avenue of Honour. Tree 2880 was planted by Miss M. Lavars, an employee of E. Lucas & Co., on 18 August 1918.[5]
