PITFIELD.

The cyanide works of Mr Glover’s, at Pitfield, have suspended operations, the reason being owing to some refractory ore making the treatment too expensive. The 96 party also intends to close down this week. For 13 years this mine has been a consistent gold producer. Some of the party have decided to work from the old Federal Mint ground, which was left in the north, end of the 96, and which is supposed to have given 3 oz to the machine trial. The closing down of the above works will mean about 60 men out of employment, and will also mean the disappearance of remunerative mining on Pitfield.
