R. F. Scott & Co.
R. F. Scott & Co was established in 1886 and in 1938 was situated in 48 Lydiard Street North. They specialised in manufacturing guns and ammunition, as well as performing bicycle repairs.[1]
Background
Opened by RF Scott in 1886 selling guns, ammunition and bikes to miners during the gold rush era. This makes Scott's Australia's oldest continuous gun shop.[2]
History
R. F. Scott & Co. were gunsmiths whose premises (according to the Firearms Technology Museum) were located on Main Road, Ballarat from 1886 to c.1890; 19 Lydiard Street North, Ballarat from c.1890 to 1908; 192 Sturt Street, Ballarat in c.1896; Bingara, NSW from 1899 to 1900+; and at 37 Lydiard Street North, Ballarat from around 1928.[3]
