History

Rae Gilbert Bennett was born on 08 July 1889 at Ballarat, Victoria. During World War One he was a Captain with the 8th Battalion.[1]

Born at Ballarat on 8 January 1889, Rae Gillbee Bennett was the eldest child and only son of Ballarat-born, Alfred Wilton Bennett and Elizabeth “Lillie” Adamson Bentley. His name linked him to his maternal grandfather, William Rae Buchanan Bentley, and his Scottish paternal grandmother, Louisa Gillbee.[2]

He died on 18 October 1869 at Murrumbeena, Victoria. [3]

Family

Rae Bennett was the eldest child and only son of Ballarat-born, Alfred Wilton Bennett and Elizabeth “Lillie” Adamson Bentley. His name linked him to his maternal grandfather, William Rae Buchanan Bentley, and his Scottish paternal grandmother, Louisa Gillbee. He attended Humffray Street Primary School and Grenville College.[4]

Legacy

World War One service recognised on the Ballarat Avenue of Honour.
