Referencing
The nominated style of referencing for use in the wiki is Chicago Style referencing. (Using footnotes.)
To create footnoted references
This method of entering footnotes into the wiki page will automatically update the numbers of the footnotes when changes are made.
This is a two-step process.
Step 1
The full reference needs to be entered into the body of the text exactly where you want the footnote number to appear. (Using the rules of Chicago Style referencing.)
(Copy and paste to your page.)
<ref>The text of your Chicago Style reference.</ref>
Example.
<ref>”The Star” (Ballarat, Vic. : 1855 – 1864), Thursday 5 March 1857, p. 2. Digital copy accessed via [http://trove.nla.gov.au/Trove].</ref>
Step 2
(Copy and paste to your page beneath the References heading.)
<references />
This command automatically generates the list of references from the information in the body of the text.
To use the same reference multiple times
This method of entering footnotes into the wiki page will automatically group the references as one entry under the References heading.
This is a two-step process.
Step 1
(The first time you enter the reference into your text.)
Instead of
<ref>
insert
<ref name=Give the reference a simple name>
Example. (With the author's surname used as the reference name.)
<ref name=Campbell>Campbell, Sandra. "re. Phoenix Foundry Ballarat." ''rootsweb'', Saturday, 31 July 1999. Via [http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/AUS-VIC-GOLDFIELDS/1999-07/0933393720 Ancestry.com] (accessed February 9, 2012).</ref>
Step 2
Any time you use that same reference again enter
<ref name=The name of the reference />
Example.
<ref name=Campbell />
Appears in page view as
57.↑ 57.0 57.1 57.2 57.3 57.4 57.5 57.6 57.7 Campbell, Sandra. "re. Phoenix Foundry Ballarat." rootsweb, Saturday, 31 July 1999. Via Ancestry.com (accessed February 9, 2012).
To add the Trove tag
Copy and paste into your reference.
Digital copy accessed via [http://trove.nla.gov.au/ Trove].
