History

Richard Viccars was born in Lal Lal. His father was Richard Vincent Viccars of Lal Lal. [1]

Legacy

Richard Viccars (13977)enlisted for service in Melbourne during World War One on 17 September 1915. At that time he was a 24 year old, single yard porter for Victoria Railways. he was a Private in the 14th Field Ambulance.[2]

LAL LAL - ON FINAL LEAVE. - Private R. Viccars. A.M.C. son of Mr R. Viccars, postmaster at Lal Lal; has been on a visit to his parents on final leave. He left on Tuesday night after being farewelled by many friends.[3]


PRIVATE R. VICCARS. Our Lal Lal correspondent writes: - General regret was expressed here when the news came through that Pte R. Vic cars, of Lal Lal, had been seriously wounded while fighting at the Front in France. This young soldier left with the 14th Ambulance, A.A.M.C.. in March, 1916. Great sympathy is felt through out this district with Mr and Mrs Viccars. who have had a great deal of sickness and trouble during the last few months.[4]
