Richard Woofe
Richard Field Woofe was a publican in Ballarat, Victoria, <1888-1919>.
History
Richard Woofe was the son of William Woofe and Ellen Dreyus, born c.1849.[1]
Woofe was the publican of the Robert Burns Hotel in 1888. The owner was Thomas Bell. The hotel was one of 45 listed to be closed as the result of the Licensing Court 1888 hearings. Woofe lodged an objection, claiming that there were irregularities in the way that the poll was conducted.[2] A second Local Option Poll was held which found that only 40 hotels would be force to close.[2] Despite his efforts, Woofe's hotel was one of the hotels to close.
In 1903 he was in Errard Street, where his occupation is give as hotel keeper.[3] In 1909 and 1919 his address was 401 Urquhart Street.[4]
He died in Ballarat in 1923.[1]
