""The citizens of Bowenvale gave a send-off to Private R. Bowring on Wednesday evening last in the Public Hall, which was crowded. Mr S. Coombes occupied the chair, and had on his right hand Private Bowring. They eulogised Private Bowring on his action in deciding to go and help his comrades at the front,< and wished him Godspeed and a safe return. In handing Private Bowring the wallet, the chairman wished him a safe journey, and also a safe return. Private Bowring thanked one and all for the beautiful present Although he could not express in words the thoughts of his mind or the feelings of his heart for their kindness, he assured them that he would do his duty wherever placed on the battlefield. He also referred to those dear ones he was leaving behind. He thought it was the duty of every young man who was well and fit to answer the Empire's call.""
