The Royal Standard Hotel was a hotel in Ballarat East, Victoria, <1868-1899>.

History

Site

The hotel was on the corner of Main Road and Humffray Street. There is a sketch of the hotel in John Hargreaves' book on Ballarat hotels.[1]

Innovations

Community Involvement

The hotel was the venue for a meeting to form a committee to support W. H. Thompson's bid for reelection to the City Council in February 1869.[2] The meeting room was also used for a meeting for supporters of a rival candidate, J. T. Phillips.[3]

The hotel was the venue for a meeting to form a new branch of the A.I.O.O.F. lodge in December 1877.[4] The publican T. Ellis, was elected as their treasurer.
