Saul Solomon was born on 15 January 1836 in Knightbridge, London. He was the son of well known dealer in photographic equipment, Joseph Solomon.[1]
Saul Solomon migrated to Victoria in 1852. He was in Ballarat in 1854 and in 1857 he set up a professional photography studio. In 1859 he was joined by William H. Bardwell[2] He married Martha Patti at Balalrat on 13 October 1866. Two years later they moved to Adelaide. [3]

Solomon was a photographer with a shop in Sturt Street according to the 1866 Ballarat Burgess Roll.
