Smythesdale

Smythe's Creek flows through this town. In 1878 it boasted a public court, court of mines, mining survey and registry, sub-treasury, post office, town hall telegraph office, bank, lock-up.[1] The school had 350 children in attendance, and there were five places of worship. [2]
In 1878 the Borough of Smythesdale had a population of 600 with 108 ratepayers on the roll. [3]
