Thomas Copperwaite

History

Thomas V. Coppewaite was born at Ballarat. He listed himself as an 18 year old Fitter at Cowley's when he enlisted for service during World War One at Ballarat West. His regimental number was 348. Serving with the 21st Battalion he was killed in Action in France on 26 August 1916. His name was published as an appreciatin of his good srevices at Poziers, France on 13 September 1916. In 1924 Thomas Copperwaite's father was sent Thomas' identity disc which was recoved from his body at teh time of his interment at Serre Road Cemetery, No.1, Hebuterne. "Doubtless this memnto, though considerably impaired through long exposure, will be greatly valued by you on account of its former intimate association with your son."

Legacy

World War One service recognised on the Ballarat Avenue of Honour.
