Thomas E. Welsh
History
Thomas Ernest Welsh was born at Stawell, Victoria. His parents were Oliver Welsh and Augusta G. Welsh of 79 Barkly St, Ballarat East. Tom Welsh enlisted for service during World War One on 07 October 1916. A member of the 6th Battalion he was wounded in action on 04 October 1917 in France with a severe gunshot wound to the left arm and shoulder which resulted in amputation.
After the war Tommy Welsh ran a kiosk outside the National Mutual building on the corner of Sturt Street and Lydiard Street, Ballarat. He was described as a real character, and did a good trade in confectionary sold to the office girls in Lydiard Street.[1]
Legacy
World War One service recognised on the Ballarat Avenue of Honour.
