History

Tom Battie (Batie) was in 24th Battalion during World War One, and was a friend of Francis J. Blanchfield. Their regimental numbers were consecutive. Tom a tentmaker enlisted at 21 years of age on 7th April 1915 in Ballarat and embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT A14 Euripides on 10 May 1915. Private no. 1007. When in France during July 1916 Tom became ill with influenza and was admitted to hospital until January 1917. He returned to Australia 22 February 1917.

Legacy

World War One service recognised on the Ballarat Avenue of Honour.

Tom was honoured with tree no. 464 planted by Cr. Walton on 4th June 1917.
