History

The Tourello State School Roll of Honour was unveiled at a ceremony on Saturday, 23 March, 1918:

"TOURELLO HONOR ROLL UNVEILED. Over 200 people from the surrounding districts attended at the Tourello State school on Saturday, the 23rd ult., to witness the unveiling of a honor roll erected in memory of past scholars who have enlisted. The school had been tastefully decorated by the committee, who had spared no pains to make the effort a success The proceedings opened with the singing of the National Anthem, followed by a pianoforte solo by Miss Harris. The programme, which proved a very enjoyable one, consisted of addresses, ably delivered by Mr J. A. Troup (chairman), Crs J. Troup and J. Baird, Lieut. M. Williamson, Sgt Quinn, ex-Trooper J. Nelson, and Cr R. Lean (Mayor of Clunes), and songs pleasingly rendered by Misses E. Grenfell and E Lenaghan, and Mr A. Cox. The unveiling ceremony was per- formed by Cpl. Arthur Roberts, a young returned soldier whose name was on the roll. Cpl Roberts received a very hearty welcome, this being his first public appearance since, his return from France, where he was severely wounded some months ago. After noon tea, served by the ladies of the committee, concluded one of the most successful functions held in this district for some time."[1]
