Background

Victorian Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (VIOSH) Australia is the Asia-Pacific centre for teaching and research in occupational health and safety (OHS), and is renowned as one of Australia's leaders in the field. VIOSH has a global reputation for its innovative approach within the field of OHS management.[1]

History

VIOSH Australia is a multi-disciplinary centre initially located in the School of Science and Engineering at the University of Ballarat (later Federation University Australia), but later became ad member of the School of Nursing and Healthcare Professions at Federation University. VIOSH delivers both formal and educational programs and short courses in occupational health and safety (OHS), many of which can be tailored to clients requirements. Together with a network of consultants, VIOSH Australia provides training, professional consultancy and contract research to corporate as well as industry association clients aimed at:-

  • increasing health and safety literacy in Australian workplaces throughout the Asia-Pacific region
  • stimulating and undertaking research and development to reduce occupational risk
  • providing timely, occupational health and safety (OHS) to assist client organisations to increase productivity through programs targeted at workplace health and safety[2]
