Valentine Dark
History
Valentine Dark, service number 1259, was aged 34 when he enlisted in the Australian Imperial Forces 9/3rd Light Horse Brigade, on the 4th February 1915, he had been in the Light Horse Brigade in Perth for two years. Before enlisting he was a Blacksmith, he lived in Keswick, South Australia, married to Amy and had a daughter, Louise Mary Dark. [1]
He arrived in Gallipoli (Heliopis), 13th November 1915 and absorbed into the Western Front Force. He was admitted to hospital on a number of occasions with Bilharzia (parasitic worm), he developed Bilharsiosis and was ruled medically unfit and sent back to Australia, he was discharged on the 26th November 1917. He was awarded the 1914/15 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. [2]
