The Victoria Hotel was in Main Street, Ballarat.[1]

A mining report of 1855 locates the hotel on the Red Hill diggings:

Red Hill.— At the back of the Victoria Hotel, some adventurous parties who "know a thing or two" about the locality, have commenced sinking upon the Red Hill Line in the old ground..."[2]

Community Involvement

  • In January 1866, Mr. Dyte and Mr. Jones, held a political rally at the hotel.[3]
  • In July 1867 the hotel was the venue for a community meeting of residents opposed to government's plan to build a lazar house, for the Chinese lepers, in Clayton Street.[4]
  • In January 1868, a Mr. Thompson, used the hotel for a political meeting for the Ballarat Borough elections.[5]
  • In January 1868 Mr. C. E. Jones spoke to a meeting of electors for the coming election.[6]
