Mr. William Henry Wooldridge, a well-known mining manager, and an old pioneer of Ballarat, died yesterday. The deceased gentleman was 80 years of age. He arrived in Victoria in 1852, and since then had lived nearly all the time in Ballarat.[4]

Deep regret was expressed yesterday when it was learnt that one of Ballarat’s old identities. Mr William Henry Wooldridge, had passed away at his residence after an illness extending over a lengthy, period. The deceased, who was very well known locally, and was highly respected for his many sterling qualities, was 80 years of age, having been born at Plympton, Devonshire, in 1829. In the year 1852 he arrived in Victoria from the homeland, and came straight to the goldfields. On the alluvial diggings he met with fair success, and in 1860 he was appointed mining manager of the famous Kohinoor mine in which he had a big interest as a shareholder. Two years later he visited England, accompanied by his wife and family, and he remained at home for three years. On his return to Ballarat in 1865 Mr Wooldridge was appointed manager of the old Albion Gold Mining Company, and subsequently he had charge of the Newington Estate, Winter’s Freehold, and Haddon companies. Then he removed to Stawell to manage the Newington Company. Later on Mr Wooldridge returned to Ballarat, and managed the Golden Fleece, Young Band, and other local companies. He was a very successful and careful manager, and during his long career had never a fatal accident to any of his men. The deceased leaves a widow and two daughters, Mrs J, Champion and Mrs Smythe, of Melbourne, and one sister, Mrs J. Jordan. The interment will take place at the Old Cemetery to day, at 4 o’clock.[5]
