History
Walter Johnson served during World War One. His tree in the Ballarat Woollen Mills Avenue of Honour was planted by R. Hunter[1] in August 1918.[2]
Legacy
The World War One service of Walterh Johnson is recognised on the Ballarat Avenue of Honour and the Ballarat Woollen Mills Avenue of Honour.

- The office staff of the Ballarat Woollen Mill met on Monday to bid farewell to one of their number, Mr Walter Johnson, who has enlisted for active service and goes into camp on Monday. The manager (Mr Ashby), in presenting him, on behalf of the staff, with an auto-strap safety razor in silver case, which was nicely inscribed, and on behalf of the company with a wristlet watch, spoke of the good qualities of the departing guest and of their appreciation of his offering his services to King and country, wished him bon voyage, and assured him that on his return his position would be secure to him. Mr Johnson has officiated as organist at All Saints' Church for the past 18 months, and at the conclusion of the services on Sunday, last, the Rev. J.S.W. Coles, on behalf of the Choir and several members of the congregation, presented him with a Barling pipe and a silver mounted tobacco pouch. Mr. Johnson has a brother now fighting in France.[3]
