History
Bill Groves was a member of the 8th Battalion's C Company during World War One. He wrote of his experiences at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915:
- We stopped just before a big olive grove and i was sent forward with another fellow to keep lookout. I'd had nothing to eat all day so I got out some cheese and a hard biscuit, and that's when we saw some movement in the olive grove and decided it was time to get back to out lines.
- The shooting started and we got caught in the crossfire ... I was on the shovel and a fellow named Fred Adams was on the pick. he got shot through the forehead and he died instantly. Well, the Turks attacked all through the night, they said they were going to drive us into the sea, but they never did. [1]
