History

Wilton Edgar Trompf was born in Beaufort, the son of Harry A. Trompf and G.A. Trompf. The family home in Ballarat was 414 Drummond Stret South. [1]

On 17 November 1916 Wilton Trompf (3254) enlisted for service during World War One at Ballarat at the age of 23 at which time he was 22 years old grocer's assistant. He served with the] 58th Battalion. An earlier enlistment of July 1915 was cancelled in October 1915 due to corns on his feet.

Mr. Wilton Trompf of Camperdown, who is signing up with the Second AIF. Army Service Corps, at Caulfield camp to-day, joins the ranks of returned soldiers with lengthy service in the last war. Mr Trompf served for 1009 days with the 58th Bn. signallers, during 1914-1918, and for most of that time was in France.[2]

Legacy

The World War One service of Wilton Trompf recognised on the Ballarat Avenue of Honour.
