Yandoit

A mining township, with post office, on Jim Crow Creek, 88 1/2 miles NW of Melbourne. Communication is by rail and coach via Guildford; or conveyance from Newstead railway Statio. Good Agricultural land in the district, and much of it under cultivation. To the NE about 4 miles distant, is an extensive bed of good clay, fit for making superior earthernware. There is a mineral spring, the waters of which are said to be equal to those of Hepbunr, and large pieces of gold have been found here, one weighing 603 ozs. There are two churches, a State School and police station. Formation, volcanic. Mount Franklin is about 4 1/2 miles SE. Population in 1883 - 250.^[1]
